From the beginning all the way through your growth and healing journey, I strongly encourage you to take what Stanford Professor Carol Dweck calls a “growth mindset”. A growth mindset differs from a fixed mindset primarily by the power of one word: “yet.” If you simply add the word yet to any limit you think you have, it will profoundly change your mindset and behavior. I think we all have nearly limitless potential for growth. Much of the work is simply recognizing our limiting stories and strategies, interrupting them, and updating them. Our life can be a continual increase in the amount of skills, capacity, compassion, and wisdom we have to offer ourselves, our loved ones, and the world. Below is a nice video by Carol Dweck. Much of what she says refers to the application of growth mindset to education and youth, but the same concepts apply to all of us. Enjoy!
